You didn’t initially start out in Public Accounting – what was your original career path?

That’s correct! I majored in Pharmaceutics for my undergraduate degree, with the intent on getting into pharmaceutical sales. Once I graduated and started interviewing for jobs, I found I had a super hard time actually getting hired for a pharmaceutical sales position without having any sales experience. I continued interviewing with different companies for about 9 months. The interviews were grueling because sometimes there were 4 or 5 different sets of interviews where I would get to the last step and then the company ultimately went with the other person who had more experience. I finally couldn’t take it anymore and decided to go back to school. That’s when I found an MBA program here locally and decided to major in accounting.

What made you realize that you wanted to get into accounting?

I honestly didn’t know much about accounting when I decided to go back to school for it. I was looking for a different career path and had always liked math. From the research I did on different jobs and pathways, accounting seemed like a good fit and steady career so I went for it.

Did you start your accounting career at Freed Maxick or somewhere else?

I started my career right out of school with Freed Maxick. It was my first job offer and I jumped at it. They called me in the evening a few hours after my interview to offer me the position. I loved finally seeing a no-nonsense approach and was so excited to start working for them. .

Did you know you made the right career choice with Freed Maxick?

Definitely. Right from the start I’ve loved the culture at Freed. There is a very social atmosphere here which I think is just so important. From when I just started as a first year staff, the directors were always available for questions and they were always involved in social interactions – you could see that at every level the camaraderie was there. A lot of the work we do on the tax side is more individualized work, so it’s awesome to still have that team aspect to be a part of too.

How do you feel about working for Freed Maxick?

I really don’t think I could be happier working anywhere else. Freed Maxick has always gone above and beyond to make sure myself and the other employees are taken care of. I feel like I’ve been able to have my cake and eat it too. I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to have a family and a life outside of work while still growing and pursuing my career.
