Nick Dentice
As a Career Coach and Recruitment Specialist at Freed Maxick, I've had the privilege of guiding and witnessing the growth of countless individuals over the past seven years.
In my role, I not only manage internship programs like the MAX Program but also oversee all entry-level recruitment efforts. Last year, we welcomed over 50 new hires into our Firm.
It's been a rewarding journey filled with challenges, triumphs, and above all, the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives and careers of others.
One of the most fulfilling aspects of my job is serving as a mentor and advocate for aspiring professionals.
Whether it's helping students navigate their career paths or providing guidance to recent graduates as they transition into the workforce, I've seen firsthand the transformative power of mentorship.
Through one-on-one coaching sessions, resume workshops, mock interviews, and multiple other touchpoints, I strive to empower individuals with the skills, confidence, and resources they need to succeed in today's competitive job market.
Managing internship programs, such as the MAX Program, is another cornerstone of my role. Programs like this not only offer invaluable hands-on experience to students but also serve as a talent pipeline for our Firm.
From organizing recruitment events to designing training modules, I work tirelessly to ensure that our interns receive a comprehensive and enriching experience that prepares them for future success in their careers. I work in collaboration with our Learning and Development Manager and am supported by our fantastic HR team and the Firm’s directors.
Onboarding new hires across all departments and levels is a pivotal aspect of my role. Every year, I have the privilege of introducing a diverse cohort of individuals to Freed Maxick, each bringing their unique talents, perspectives, and aspirations.
From orchestrating orientation sessions to fostering team-building activities, my aim is to cultivate an environment where new hires feel not only welcomed but also empowered to thrive. As part of our comprehensive onboarding process, we go the extra mile by assigning each new hire both a 'buddy' and a Performance Advisor.
These assigned mentors provide personalized guidance, support, and insights, ensuring that every newcomer receives the assistance they need to navigate their transition smoothly and embark on their journey with confidence.
In addition to my responsibilities within the Firm, I am passionate about promoting the accounting profession to the next generation of talent.
I actively engage with high school students in Western New York, highlighting the benefits of choosing a career in accounting. Through workshops, career fairs, mentoring programs, and partnerships with two-year colleges, I aim to inspire young minds and showcase the opportunities available in this dynamic field.
Additionally, I coordinate shadow programs and offer a Leadership program each summer. Of course, being a Career Coach and Recruitment Specialist isn't without its challenges. Navigating the ever-evolving landscape of recruitment trends, addressing the needs of a diverse workforce, and balancing the demands of multiple stakeholders are just a few of the hurdles I face daily. However, it's these challenges that drive me to continually innovate, adapt, and grow in my role.
Reflecting on my journey thus far, I am profoundly thankful for the chance to fulfill this distinctive role. It's rare for accounting Firms to prioritize a position like mine.
Day by day, as I witness the development and achievements of our interns and observe how our recruitment initiatives positively influence the wider community, I am constantly reaffirmed of the significance of investing in talent and fostering the future leaders of tomorrow.
In the end, being a Career Coach and Recruitment Specialist is more than just a job – it's a calling. It's about empowering others to reach their full potential, fostering a culture of excellence and inclusion, and ultimately, making a positive difference in the lives of those we serve.
